Server hosting: comparison framework
A hosted server trades control for convenience. These are the criteria worth comparing and how to check each one. We do not rank vendors.
A cell is filled only with a claim we could point to, with the page it came from and the date. Everything else says "not checked". There are no affiliate links, and no price appears unless it was read on the vendor's own page. Data last checked on 29 Sept 2026.
Criteria
- Server regions
- Locations listed on the vendor's own site.
- Backups
- Whether backups are automatic, how often, how many are kept and whether you can download or restore them.
- Mod support (BepInEx / Valheim Plus)
- Whether the vendor states it supports BepInEx, Valheim Plus or custom mod files, and how they are installed.
- Version and update controls
- Whether you can choose when the server updates, pin or roll back a version, or run the public-test branch.
- Crossplay backend
- Whether the vendor states the server can run the Crossplay backend (-crossplay) and lets you set launch arguments.
- Support
- Support channels and stated response times.
- Current pricing
- A price is only shown if it was read on the vendor's page; it always carries its date. Pricing changes often.
